ROSING, JOHN-TVILLE VILLAGE PRES ELECT.TIFF

John Rosing

THIENSVILLE 鈥 A Downtown Thiensville Business Association member, a Thiensville-Mequon Rotarian, and also part of the Thiensville Board of Review, John Rosing knows the ins and outs of the community he鈥檚 called home for 30 years. And though the village of Thiensville may have a new face in the leadership role, Rosing is ensuring that it won鈥檛 change its tradition of having high-quality government.

Rosing was officially sworn in as the village鈥檚 newest president last week after being elected earlier this month. He replaces Van Mobley, who announced last December that he would not seek another term after serving as village president since 2012.

To get to know the newest village leader a little better, the 六合彩开奖记录 Graphic asked Rosing four questions. Here are his responses:

Q. What鈥檚 your vision for the village? What developments/businesses would you like to see set up shop here 鈥 especially within the Thiensville Crossing site 鈥 that could help continue making Thiensville a premiere destination spot?

A. Thiensville is on a roll with many fun and well-attended events and festivals throughout the year, a vibrant owner-occupied home, condominium and rental market, a strong business community with many legacy, long-term successful businesses who have been joined by budding, creative newcomers, all of whom serve our local community and, importantly, bring visitors and shoppers to our village from far and wide.

We have many fine dining establishments ranging from casual to sophisticated that are busy each and every hour of operation.

Leaders and members of our Downtown Thiensville Business Association are full of enthusiasm to create and host events that foster an environment for our businesses and community to thrive. And our vision for the few available parcels of developable land in the village, including the Thiensville Crossing location, is to attract high-end, attractive mixed-use buildings that achieve the highest and best use of the property, increase our property tax base, complement existing businesses, and meet unmet consumer needs as much as possible.

I am optimistic that despite relatively high interest rates and construction material and labor costs, highly regarded regional developers are soon going to take a keen interest in investing in Thiensville.

Q. What are some areas for improvement/ issues you鈥檇 like to address that maybe haven鈥檛 been discussed or dwelled on as much in the past?

A. We need a plan to repair or replace several of our aging streets including curb, gutter or culvert improvements.

I would like to see us explore adding a bike and walking trail on Freistadt Road. I also agree with others who have advocated for improving the aesthetics of our Thiensville portion of the Ozaukee Interurban Trail to make it more inviting for users to take a detour off the trail to sample our neighborhoods, restaurants, and shops. It would not take much to tidy up the back yards of some of the properties along the Trail.

I would also like to spur a program to recognize home and business owners who have invested to improve the appearance of their properties, in doing so hopefully inducing others to consider doing the same. And we will strive to improve communication between our village government and our residents.

Q. Aside from your experience as a Rotary and Thiensville Business Association member, what are some other ways you hope to engage with the community?

A. My wife Mimi and I have a 30+ year history of saying 鈥測es鈥 when asked to help our community in some way. We try not to keep track of such things 鈥 but giving back or paying it forward always brings its own reward.

I intend to be present in our community, available to residents, whether home or condo owners or renters, and reaching out to businesses to learn more about their needs. I am far from being a 鈥渃areer politician,鈥 but I must say I enjoyed kibitzing with residents and businesses as I walked neighborhoods and our commercial corridor while distributing campaign flyers.

Q. When you鈥檙e not busy presiding at village board meetings and approving resolutions, what do you enjoy doing during your free time?

A. I am still self-employed as a consultant to hospitals nationwide, so there is that! We have four adult children who all graduated from Homestead and are now married and making their way in the world successfully, two residing relatively nearby and two out west. We are close to them and our eight grandchildren who are all a joy and blessing.

We are active members of Lumen Christi Catholic Church, a community of believers we cherish being among.

I enjoy obsessing over my yard; I love being outdoors with my hands working the soil. Mimi and I attend about 20 Milwaukee Brewer games every summer. I enjoy at least a weekly breakfast with friends at Chuck鈥檚 Place, reading WWII history books and playing an occasional round of golf at Ozaukee County鈥檚 Mee-Kwon golf course.
