The West Bend Sunrise Rotary Club helped clean up Highway 45, from Paradise Drive to Washington Street, Saturday morning, ahead of Earth Day on Monday. The club adopted this portion of the highway and help clean it up twice a year.

WASHINGTON COUNTY— Washington County organizations and citizens alike are coming together for Earth Week, offering opportunities to help save the planet, one community event at a time.

Some of the events going on in the county this week include: Eisenbahn Trial Cleanup: Washington County Trails & Parks is hosting Earth Day and Celebrate Trails Day, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s (RTC) annual spring-clean up celebration, on Saturday.

Washington County Trails and Parks are looking for groups to volunteer at the event. To sign up and for more information including section locations, go online and visit . Cleanup kits will be available for pickup at the Natural Resources Department on 4/26. Maps and instructions will be sent via email upon signup.

Jackson Drug Takeback Day: The Jackson Police Department announced on Monday that the village will be holding their National Prescription Drug Takeback Day on Saturday. Residents need only drive up to the west side of the police garage and an officer will be there to assist. Residents and non-residents are welcome. Items acceptable for disposal at the drug takeback event include: prescription and over-the-counter medications, ointments, inhalers, patches, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vape cartridges and devices (with batteries removed), vials, and pet medications. Items that will NOT be accepted include: illegal drugs, needles/sharps, thermometers, aerosol cans, biohazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), flares, personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotion, sunscreen), hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, chemicals, oil, or gas), or any vape devices containing batteries of any kind.

Germantown Earth Week 5K: Germantown High School Environmental Club is organizing a fun 5K run at Datka Stadium on Sunday to raise money for a greenhouse. Check-in starts at 10 a.m., and the run will start at 10:30 a.m. Registration is available online at .

Newburg Cleanup and Drug Takeback: Newburg will host an E-cycling, bulk recycling, and first-ever Drug Take Back event on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Newburg DPW, 3590 Municipal Road. There is no charge for any items dropped off.

For the E-cycling event, residents can dispose of old and unusable computers, fax machines, desktop printers, scanners, copiers, televisions and computer monitors; cellphones, tablets, e-readers, battery-powered phone accessories, computer accessories, video players; video game consoles, hand-held video games, and battery-powered accessories. Acceptable and unacceptable items at this event are the same as Jackson’s drug takeback day, as listed above.

Aluminum can sale specials: American Metal & Paper Recycling Inc (935 Schoenhaar Drive, West Bend & 7561 Otten Drive, Kewaskum) and A&W Iron & Metal, Inc (7588 Otten Drive, Kewaskum) are running special Earth Week sales on recycled aluminum cans. Each company is offering $0.55/lb of cans, available until April 27.

Kettle Moraine Forest Cleanup: Friends of the Kettle Moraine’s 33rd annual Earth Week Litter Pickup event will take place on Saturday along the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive through the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit and at other Forest locations starting at 8:30 a.m. Participants will meet at the Forest Headquarters at N1765 County Road G in Campbellsport between County Road SS and County Road S (near New Prospect) to receive their road or area assignment.
