Rettinger wins Assembly District 83 seat - 01

Nik Rettinger

MUKWONAGO 鈥 District 83 State Rep. Nik Rettinger, R-Mukwonago, has decided not to seek re-election for another term in the State Assembly due to not wanting to force a primary with another Republican.

In the redistricting process he was paired with state Rep. Chuck Wichgers. R-Muskego. "Having the opportunity to serve the communities across the 83rd District in the Wisconsin State Assembly has been an absolute honor. However, after the extreme partisan redistricting process pushed by Gov. Evers and our activist State Supreme Court majority, I found myself paired with a long-serving incumbent member of the Republican Assembly Caucus. After much prayer and consideration with my wife Sidney, I have decided to not seek re-election. I strongly believe I need to do what is best for this state by not forcing a primary. We need all efforts focused on the critical Presidential, U.S. Senate, and State Legislative elections this November,鈥 Rettinger said.

Gov. Tony Evers signed new legislative district maps into law in February.

The recent redistricting requires the Wisconsin state Assembly and state Senate to have different district maps beginning in 2025. Primary elections for offices to the Assembly will take place in August and the general election will be in November. Candidates for the fall elections can now circulate nomination papers.

Rettinger said he met wonderful people in communities across Waukesha, Walworth, and Racine counties.

鈥淭hank you for putting your trust in me when you overwhelmingly voted for me in the 2022 Primary and General Elections. During my time in office, it has been important to me to learn and stand up for the priorities that matter most to you in making your lives better,鈥 he said.

As Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee, he focused on supporting law enforcement and getting legislation such as protecting children from predators and streamlining prosecution of catalytic converter thefts signed into law.

鈥淏eyond a focus on public safety, I also took pride in fighting for lower taxes, defending the 2nd Amendment, attracting jobs & talent to our state, and finding reforms to clear up bureaucracy that weigh down the pursuit of the American Dream. We must continue to fight for these ideals so Wisconsinites suffering under crippling inflation and retreads of the same decades old failed Democrat policies can find a better future yet ahead,鈥 Rettinger said.

He added there needs to be an all hands on deck in the election cycle.

鈥淲e must all focus on ensuring we deliver victories at the top of the ticket this fall downward to holding our Republican majorities in the Legislature. We must continue the common-sense policies that have made this state great,鈥 he said.
