Members of Germantown鈥檚 MacArthur Kids Klub and Wendland Nursery celebrate the village's 20 years of being a 鈥淭ree City鈥 on Arbor Day.

GERMANTOWN 鈥 This Arbor Day, Germantown commemorated 20 years of recognition from Tree City USA.

In celebration of Arbor Day, Germantown Park and Recreation sponsored a public proclamation and tree planting at Firemen鈥檚 Park.

According to the release, the village held a ceremony on April 25 in which Village President Dean Wolter and Park and Recreation Chair Depies read Germantown鈥檚 official proclamation while Wendland Nursery, an event sponsor, planted a tulip tree with the assistance of MacArthur Kids Klub.

For over 20 years, Germantown has met Tree City USA standards. The four standards include holding a tree board or department, having a tree ordinance, $2 spent per capita on urban forestry and the celebration of Arbor Day.

"We are committed to growing trees in the Germantown community," said Gil Standridge, Germantown Park and Recreation director. "Germantown works to create a culture that cares for trees and enriches our parks and neighborhoods. Germantown is proud to be a tree city."
